
EDMONTON, Alberta, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Calgary's Lee Stempniak racked up a 4-point night with a hat trick and an assist Saturday, powering the Flames to a 6-2 rout of Edmonton.
Stempniak's three-goal performance was the second of his career and Blake Comeau donated a goal and two helpers as the Flames bested their Alberta rivals for a ninth straight time.
Mikael Backlund and Jay Bouwmeester also scored while Miikka Kiprusoff made 21 saves in Calgary's fifth win in seven overall contests.
The Oilers got a goal and an assist from Ryan Smyth and Andy Sutton also scored, but Edmonton still went down to its eighth loss in nine games.
Nikolai Khabibulin started in goal but was yanked after yielding four goals on just 16 shots.
Devan Dubnyk relieved and allowed one goal on six Calgary tries the rest of the way.
