RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Two goals from Jussi Jokinen and 22 saves by Cam Ward Friday brought the Carolina Hurricanes a 3-0 victory over Washington.

The Hurricanes began the night tied with Tampa Bay for the worst record in the Eastern Conference, but Ward put together his second shutout of the season. It was the 18th of his seven-year career.

Carolina scored a goal in each period, with Jokinen managing a shorthanded tally 12:43 into the game. He then scored on the power play with 18 seconds left in the middle period, giving him seven goals for the year.

Jiri Tlusty completed the scoring 30 seconds from the end of the contest with another power-play goal.

The Hurricanes, who ended a two-game skid, had suffered a 2-1 loss to Washington last Sunday.

Tomas Vokoun gave up three goals on 33 shots to take the loss.
