MELBOURNE, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Roger Federer had just 13 unforced errors Friday in taking a straight-set victory in third-round play at the Australian Open.

Federer, seeded third, defeated Ivo Karlovic 7-6 (8-6), 7-5, 6-3, posting one break in each of the second and third sets. Neither player had a break until Federer took a 14-point decision in the 12th game of the second set. His other break came in the fourth game of the third set.

On serve, Federer won 78 percent of the points and saved both break points he faced. His 13 unforced errors were more than offset by 55 winners.

Second-seeded Rafael Nadal also won 78 percent of the points when serving in getting past Lukas Lacko 6-2, 6-4, 6-2. Nadal landed 81 percent of his first serves, losing only eight of 55 points in that situation.

He draws Spanish countryman Feliciano Lopez in the fourth round. Lopez, the No. 18 seed, pulled off a small upset in a 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-7 (0-7) 6-1 win over No. 16-seeded John Isner.

Bernard Tomic, along with Lleyton Hewitt the last Australians in the draw, ousted No. 13 Alexandr Dolgopolov in a spirited 4-6, 7-6 (7-0), 7-6 (8-6), 2-6, 6-3 contest.

Also Friday, seventh-seeded Tomas Berdych defeated No. 30 Kevin Anderson 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-1), 6-1; No. 10 Nicolas Almagro advanced over 21st-seeded Stanislas Wawrinka 7-6 (7-2), 6-2, 6-4; 11th-seeded Juan Martin del Potro swept past Lu Yen-Hsun 6-2, 6-3, 6-0; and unseeded Philipp Kohlschreiber beat Alejandro Falla 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3).

In addition to the Nadal-Lopez pairing, Berdych plays Almagro, Federer takes on Tomic and Kohlschreiber meets del Potro in the fourth round.
