CINCINNATI, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones was sentenced to one year of probation Wednesday after pleading guilty to a disorderly conduct charge.

Before receiving the sentence from Hamilton County Municipal Court Judge Brad Greenberg, Jones issued an apology to police officers who responded to a fight he was involved in outside a Cincinnati bar in July.

Greenberg, who called Jones' behavior "foolish," fined him $250 and ordered him to perform 50 hours of community service for the misdemeanor.

Jones, 28, told the court he was "just trying to protect someone that I loved" prior to his run-in with police.

The defensive back -- a one-time rising NFL star now known more for his off-field legal troubles -- played in eight games for the Bengals this past season, starting seven times.
