Blue Jays sign Rasmus to 1-year deal

TORONTO, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Center fielder Colby Rasmus has signed a one-year contract with the Toronto Blue Jays, the team announced Sunday.

Rasmus, obtained in a multiplayer trade from the St. Louis Cardinals last season, inked a deal worth $2.7 million.

The 25-year-old batted .173 with 10 doubles, three home runs and 13 RBI over 35 games for the Blue Jays.

He has compiled a .251 career average with 74 doubles, 53 home runs, 171 runs batted in and 232 runs scored in three major league seasons with St. Louis and Toronto.
