Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Rookie Kemba Walker celebrated his first NBA start with 23 points Saturday and the Charlotte Bobcats shot past Golden State 112-100.
The former Connecticut star had come off the bench in each of the Bobcats' first 12 games of the season, but was inserted as a starter Saturday and responded with five points down the stretch -- turning back a late Warriors rally.
Gerald Henderson led Charlotte with 26 points and Byron Mullens added 20.
D.J. Augustin chipped in with 16 points and seven assists for the Bobcats.
Golden State dropped to 3-8 on the season despite 24 points and 16 rebounds from David Lee.
