Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

EDMONTON, Alberta, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Zach Parise put a deflection past Nikolai Khabibulin on the power play 1:06 into overtime Wednesday, giving the New Jersey Devils a 2-1 win over Edmonton.
Corey Potter was called for tripping with 36 seconds remaining in the third period and that penalty was almost over when Parise tipped in a shot by Patrik Elias.
New Jersey opened the scoring 8:35 into the second period on Ilya Kovalchuk's shorthanded goal. Alex Hemsky tied it on the power play 8:32 into the third.
Edmonton lost its fourth in a row. New Jersey is 2-1 on a four-game road trip that ends at Winnipeg Saturday.
Johan Hedberg made 22 saves to get the win. Khabibulin stopped 23 shots.
