DETROIT, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Henrik Zetterberg produced the game-winner in the fourth round of the shootout Thursday, giving the Detroit Red Wings a 3-2 victory over Phoenix.
Detroit goaltender Jimmy Howard recorded the 100th win of his career in the Red Wings' 13th consecutive triumph at home. Detroit can equal the longest home winning streak in the 86-year history of the franchise Saturday when it hosts Chicago.
Each side had a goal through the first three shootout rounds before Zetterberg faked out Mike Smith. Howard then stopped Lauri Korpikoski to ensure the victory.
Phoenix twice took the lead -- on goals by Radim Vrbata in the first period and Taylor Pyatt in the third. Valtteri Filppula scored a tying goal for Detroit with 51 seconds left in the opening period and Johan Franzen made it a 2-2 game midway through the third.
Howard stopped 25 shots and Smith made 40 saves.
