Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

KAPALUA, Hawaii, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Steve Stricker's closing round of 4-under 69 Monday was enough to earn him a three-stroke victory at the season-opening Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
Stricker finished at 23-under 269, to collect his 12th career PGA win.
Coming into the final round with a five-stroke lead, the 44-year-old let his advantage dwindle to one shot before he rebounded with two birdies in the last three holes.
Scotland's Martin Laird finished second with a 6-under 67, ending at 20-under 272. Webb Simpson and 2011 winner Jonathan Byrd both shot 68 Monday to finish third, one stroke behind Laird.
