Pens' Neal, Staal injured, out for weeks

PITTSBURGH, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Pittsburgh Penguins forwards James Neal and Jordan Staal are both likely to be out of action for weeks with injuries, the team revealed Sunday.

Neal, the Pens' leading goal-scorer with 21 and second in points with 36 over 40 games, will be out at least two weeks after sustaining a broken foot in Saturday's loss to the New Jersey Devils.

Neal was injured when he blocked a shot.

Staal, meanwhile, will be out 4-to-6 weeks with a knee injury received Friday during a game against the New York Rangers in a collision with New York's Mike Rupp.

Staal had racked up 15 goals and 21 points in 34 games this season -- points that were crucial as the Penguins tried to cope with the concussion-related absence of superstar forward Sidney Crosby.

Pittsburgh fell into fourth place in the Atlantic Division after Saturday's loss to New Jersey, their fourth consecutive setback.
