NHL: Phoenix 5, New York Islanders 1

GLENDALE, Ariz., Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Shane Doan logged his first career hat trick in his 16th NHL season Saturday, powering the Phoenix Coyotes' 5-1 win over the New York Islanders.

Doan, who has 308 career goals -- all with the Coyotes franchise -- had never recorded a hat trick until Saturday, when he scored in each of the three periods.

Taylor Pyatt and Oliver Ekman-Larsson also added goals and Mike Smith came up with 31 saves as Phoenix snapped a two-game losing streak.

Frans Nielsen got the only goal for the Islanders, who lost their second straight.

Evgeni Nabokov made 20 saves for New York.
