LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Nevada boxing officials say they want to meet with Floyd Mayweather about his license before he enters the ring this spring.

Mayweather has not yet applied for a license for his May 5 bout in Las Vegas against a still-unnamed opponent; however, the head of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Keith Kizer, told TMZ when he does he will have to sit down with the commission.

"The commission looks at experience, integrity, character and skill to determine whether or not it's appropriate to issue a license," Kizer said.

TMZ noted Mayweather comes into the scheduled fight with some baggage. He was convicted last month of assaulting his girlfriend and had to get a judge to delay his 90-day jail sentence until after the fight.

Whoever Mayweather fights, it won't be Manny Pacquiao. Abs-cbnNews.com in the Philippines said Saturday promoter Bob Arum was working on a fight for the Filipino welterweight king that will probably take place in June, about the time Mayweather is checking into the Clark County Jail.

Media reports said veterans Miguel Cotto and Juan Manuel Marquez were among the potential opponents for Pacman.
