OTTAWA, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Craig Anderson took a shutout into the third period and made 35 saves Thursday in lifting the Ottawa Senators to a 4-1 win over Tampa Bay.

Anderson has begun to rebound from a poor start to a season that has seen him give up an average of 3.19 goals per game. This was his fourth straight victory, during which he has allowed only five goals.

The Senators took a 2-0 lead through two periods on scores by Jason Spezza in the first and Kyle Turris in the second.

Tampa Bay closed within one when Steven Stamkos, the NHL's leading scorer, produced his 28th goal of the season. Zack Smith then gave the Senators a critical insurance goal with 3:26 to play in regulation and Daniel Alfredsson added an empty-net tally with 53 seconds left.

Ottawa has won seven of its last nine. Tampa Bay has dropped two in a row.

Dwayne Roloson allowed three goals on 23 shots. It was the eighth straight time he has given up at least three goals in a game.
