NEW YORK, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Marian Gaborik sailed a slap shot past Scott Clemmensen with 1:31 left in overtime Thursday, giving the New York Rangers a 3-2 decision over Florida.
The Rangers kept their four-point lead over Philadelphia in the Atlantic Division by winning their third in a row. Florida lost in overtime for an NHL-leading eighth time this season.
New York took a 2-1 lead 4:24 into the third period on a power-play goal from Ryan Callahan. Mike Santorelli tied it 36 seconds later.
Marcel Goc scored for Florida in the first period and the Rangers responded on a rare goal by defenseman Anton Stralman with 2:26 to go in the stanza. It was Stralman's first goal of the season and just the 12th in his 227-game NHL career.
Martin Biron made 19 saves for the Rangers while improving his record to 8-2. Clemmensen stopped 38-of-41 shots.
