SAN ANTONIO, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Matt Bonner came off the bench to score 17 points Thursday and led the San Antonio Spurs to a 93-71 whipping of cold-shooting Dallas.
The Spurs won their second in a row since losing Manu Ginobili with a broken hand. Ginobili had surgery Thursday and is expected to be out two months.
San Antonio made 16 3-point shots, five of them by Bonner. Richard Jefferson added 16 points and Tony Parker contributed 11 points with seven assists.
The Mavericks shot only 35 percent from the field and made just 1-of-19 from 3-point range. Star forward Dirk Nowitzki was a mere 3-of-11. Jason Terry led the Mavericks with 12 points.
San Antonio raced to a 23-8 lead midway through the opening period and Dallas never made a serious run. The teams combined for only 24 points in a sluggish third quarter, 13 by the Spurs.
