PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Two men wearing Flyers jerseys and a compatriot are being sought after they were shown attacking two New York Rangers fans in Philadelphia, police say.
Authorities released video Wednesday of an assault on two men wearing Rangers jerseys in front of a South Philadelphia steakhouse following New York's win over the Flyers in Monday's 2012 Winter Classic outdoor game at Citizens Bank Park.
The Rangers fans were attacked, thrown on the ground and repeatedly punched by three men, two of whom were wearing Flyers gear, the video showed.
The victims were an off-duty Woodbridge, N.J., police officer and his son, The (Newark, N.J.) Star-Ledger reported.
The unnamed officer "took a severe beating," Woodbridge Township spokesman John Hagerty said.
Hagerty added the officer was briefly hospitalized and received stitches to close his wounds.
Details of the son's injuries were not available, the newspaper said.
