MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Mike Conley made half of the eight free throws Memphis converted over the final 22 seconds Wednesday and the Grizzlies fought off Minnesota 90-86.
The Timberwolves spent the entire game battling back from an early 15-point deficit and they climbed within one when Ricky Rubio made a 3-pointer with 16 seconds left.
The Grizzlies were perfect from the line down the stretch, however, to hang on for their second straight win and their third in four outings. Minnesota had captured its previous two games.
Tony Allen led Memphis with 20 points while Rudy Gay had 19 points and eight rebounds.
Kevin Love had 27 points and 14 rebounds for Minnesota. Rubio scored 12 points and had 10 assists.
Neither side could shoot better than 41 percent and Minnesota suffered 17 turnovers, 15 of which were Memphis steals.
