Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

WASHINGTON, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Alex Ovechkin stayed hot with a goal and an assist Tuesday in the Washington Capitals' 3-1 victory over Calgary.
Including his Tuesday performance, Ovechkin has racked up two points in each of the Caps' last four games -- all wins -- and has seven goals and four assists over a seven-game span.
The Washington superstar had been held without a multi-point game for nearly two months before the streak.
Troy Brouwer and Dennis Wideman scored and Tomas Vokoun turned aside 18 shots for the Capitals.
Curtis Glencross notched the Flames' only goal and Miikka Kiprusoff made 18 saves for Calgary.
