SACRAMENTO, Jan. 1 (UPI) -- Tyreke Evans scored 13 of his game-high 27 points in the decisive third quarter Sunday, sparking the Sacramento Kings to a 96-80 win over New Orleans.
Evans keyed the big frame for the Kings, during which they took control of the game by outscoring the Hornets 30-18.
Marcus Thornton poured in 25 points and Sacramento used 13 more from John Salmons to post its first victory since a season-opening decision over the Lakers.
New Orleans got 17 points from Trevor Ariza and 14 from Chris Kaman, but couldn't overcome a 40.4 percent shooting performance from the floor.
