SAN DIEGO, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- The San Diego Padres said they sent two pitching prospects to the Chicago White Sox Saturday for outfielder Carlos Quentin.

Quentin, who attended high school in San Diego, will see action in the corner outfield positions and add some pop to the Padres' notoriously punchless lineup.

Quentin hit .254 with 24 home runs and 77 RBI in 421 at-bats for the White Sox last season.

The White Sox obtained Simon Castro, 23, and Pedro Hernandez, 22.

Castro, 23, went 7-8 with a 5.63 earned run average in 22 starts between Class AA San Antonio and Class AAA Tucson last season.

Hernandez, a lefty, was 25-11 with a 3.55 ERA in 93 minor-league games, including 48 starts in the Padres' system.
