WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Blake Wheeler's power-play goal in the second period was the eventual game-winner Saturday in the Winnipeg Jets' 3-2 victory over Toronto.

Wheeler tipped in a blast by Ron Hainsey midway through the middle frame, breaking a 2-2 tie, and the Jets held on for an Eastern Conference-best 14th home win.

Zach Bogosian and Andrew Ladd scored 2 1/2 minutes apart earlier in the period for Winnipeg.

Ondrej Pavelec stopped 22-of-24 shots to earn the victory after sitting out the Jets' previous contest.

Clarke MacArthur scored and Phil Kessel added his 21st goal of the season for the Maple Leafs.

Toronto's James Reimer made 32 saves.
