
OAKLAND, Calif., Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Monta Ellis scored 12 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter Wednesday, powering the Golden State Warriors to a 92-78 victory over New York.
The score was tied heading into the final period, but the Warriors outscored the Knicks 28-14 in the quarter to win for the second time in three games. New York suffered its first loss after opening the campaign with a win over Boston.
Ellis made only 8-of-22 shots from the field, but he hit two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to help the Warriors pull away. Brandon Rush added 19 points off the bench and David Lee had 13 for Golden State, which held New York to 40 percent shooting and just three offensive rebounds.
Amare Stoudemire led New York with 16 points, but he connected on just 5-of-15 field goal attempts.
