
TAMPA, Fla., Dec. 27 (UPI) -- Steven Stamkos scored twice during a decisive second period Tuesday that carried the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 5-1 victory over Philadelphia.
Stamkos scored his 21st goal of the season 7:25 into the second on the rebound of a Brett Clark shot, putting the Lightning ahead for good at 2-1.
After Steve Downie made it 3-1 with a goal 4 1/2 minutes later, Stamkos struck again for his 22nd of the season, tying him with New York's Marian Gaborik for the league lead.
Bruno Gervais and Vincent Lecavalier also scored for the Bolts, who improved to 5-1-1 against the Flyers in their last seven meetings.
Mathieu Garon earned the victory with 31 saves.
Scott Hartnell scored and Ilya Bryzgalov managed only 11 saves for Philadelphia.
