PHOENIX, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- Eric Gordon's jump shot with 4 seconds remaining Monday boosted the New Orleans Hornets to an 85-84 season-opening victory over Phoenix.
Gordon -- playing in his first game as a Hornet after being obtained from the Los Angeles Clippers in the Chris Paul trade -- drained a shot from the top of the key after running 8 seconds off the clock.
Gordon's shot was set up when Trevor Ariza corralled the rebound of a Jared Dudley miss and called timeout with 16 seconds remaining.
After the decisive shot, rookie Markieff Morris got the inbound pass for the Suns and tried to hit Steve Nash with a pass. But his toss sailed wide and went out of bounds with less than a second to play.
Gordon finished with 20 points while Carl Landry added 14 and seven rebounds for New Orleans.
Robin Lopez led the Suns with 21 points and seven boards off the bench.
