NEW YORK, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Henrik Lundqvist logged his third shutout of the season Monday in the New York Rangers' 3-0 whitewash of the New York Islanders.

Lundqvist turned aside 28 shots for the Rangers, who stayed hot with their fifth straight win while grabbing sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Division and the top spot in the Eastern Conference.

Carl Hagelin scored twice and got some help from Marian Gaborik, who tallied his NHL-best 22nd goal of the season for the Rangers.

The Islanders, last in the East, got 28 saves from Evgeni Nabokov.
