Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

CHICAGO, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Pitchers Andy Sonnanstine and Manny Corpas have signed non-guaranteed split contracts with the Chicago Cubs, the team announced Monday.
Sonnanstine, a five-year veteran of the Tampa Bay Rays, was used mostly as a reliever the past two seasons. He made 15 appearances, including four starts, in 2011, posting an 0-2 record with a 5.55 ERA.
Over his career, the left-hander is 28-31 with a 5.26 earned run average and one save.
Corpas has played his entire five-year career for the Colorado Rockies, but missed the recently completed season while recovering from elbow surgery.
He logged 56 relief appearances in the previous year, going 3-5 with a 4.62 ERA and 10 saves for Colorado.
