CINCINNATI, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- Jerome Simpson's somersaulting touchdown run Saturday provided the difference in the Cincinnati Bengals' crucial 23-16 victory over Arizona.
Simpson did a full somersault into the end zone at the end of a 19-run scoring run in the second quarter, which ended up being the decisive score as the Bengals (9-6) took their second straight win and strengthened their grip on an AFC wild card spot.
Rookie quarterback Andy Dalton tossed for 154 yards and two touchdowns, going 18-of-31 through the air, and Mike Nugent booted 3-of-5 field goal attempts in the victory.
The Cardinals (7-8) saw their four-game winning streak snapped despite a 297-yard passing performance by John Skelton, who started again in place of the injured Kevin Kolb.
He tossed two TDs but was also picked off three times for Arizona.
