PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- The Philadelphia Phillies announced Monday shortstop Jimmy Rollins has signed a three-year, $33 million contract.
Rollins' deal includes an option for a fourth year.
Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said the 33-year-old infielder remains a vital part of the perennial National League power.
"Jimmy has been an integral part of this franchise's recent success and is arguably the best shortstop in club history," he said. "He also stands to be one of the Phillies' all-time greatest players."
After numerous reports surfaced last week saying he had signed the new deal, the 2007 National League MVP confirmed it in a Saturday Twitter post.
Rollins has won three Gold Gloves while batting .272 with 170 homers and 725 runs batted in during his 12 years with the Phillies.
"From the first day I got here -- in the big leagues -- it was about making this team a contender and eventually a champion. Those things have been accomplished," Rollins said during a press conference.
