PHOENIX, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Free-agent outfielder Jason Kubel and the Arizona Diamondbacks have reached agreement on a two-year contract, multiple reports indicated Monday.
The D-backs signed the former Minnesota Twins left-handed hitter for $15 million, Fox Sports reported.
The deal also includes an option for a third year, MLB.com said.
The 29-year-old power hitter struggled through an injury-filled campaign in 2011, batting .273 with 12 home runs and 58 RBI while missing more than two months with a sprained foot.
But he clouted 20 or more home runs in each of the three prior years, putting up career numbers of 104 homers and 429 RBI over parts of seven seasons with Minnesota.
Kubel will likely become the D-backs' starting left fielder with Gerardo Parra being relegated to a fourth outfield spot or perhaps becoming trade bait, MLB.com said.
