NEW YORK, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Calgary Flames forward Rene Bourque has been suspended for two games without pay for delivering a check from behind, the NHL said Monday.

Bourque made the hit on defenseman Brent Seabrook of Chicago in the first period of the Blackhawks' 4-2 win over the Flames Sunday.

The Calgary player was whistled for a major penalty and a game misconduct on the play.

He will be eligible to return Friday when the Flames visit Vancouver.
