SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Patrick Marleau scored the go-ahead goal on a power play 6 minutes into the third period Saturday and the San Jose Sharks edged Edmonton 3-2.

Joe Thornton drew an interference call on Edmonton's Theo Peckham early in the final frame and the Sharks made the Oilers pay.

Joe Pavelski made a diving cross-crease pass while falling that Marleau one-timed past a startled Nikolai Khabibulin, breaking a 2-2 tie and boosting the Sharks to a win in the first contest of a six-game homestand.

Martin Havlat and Thornton also scored and Antti Niemi turned aside 23-of-25 shots for the Sharks.

The Oilers, meanwhile, continued to struggle, losing for the seventh time in 10 games.

Jordan Eberle found the net and Ryan Jones contributed a short-handed, unassisted goal for Edmonton.

Khabibulin finished with 34 saves.
