PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- All-star shortstop Jimmy Rollins confirmed Saturday he has agreed to a new contract with the Philadelphia Phillies.

ESPN.com reported the deal covers three years and includes an option for a fourth year that would keep him in Philly until 2015, at which time he will be 37 and in the home stretch of what has been a brilliant career.

Rollins confirmed on his Twitter account he has signed the deal.

"I see you all know by now. Gotta deal with me for 3 (4) more years!" Rollins tweeted.

Rollins was the National League MVP in 2007 and has three Gold Gloves and three All-Star Game appearances since 1996.

ESPN.com said Rollins had expressed interest in a five-year deal when he entered the free-agent market.
