
DETROIT, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Cory Emmerton scored twice during a big first period and added an assist Saturday in the Detroit Red Wings' 8-2 pounding of Los Angeles.
Drew Miller also netted a pair of goals, and Niklas Kronwall added a goal and two assists for the Red Wings, who outscored the Kings 4-1 in the first period and went on to record their 10th straight home win.
Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg also scored and Jimmy Howard improved to 18-7-1, turning aside 26-of-28 shots.
The Kings, meanwhile, lost for the sixth time in seven games amid reports Darryl Sutter has agreed to become the team's next coach following the firing of Terry Murray.
Jonathan Quick lasted less than 9 minutes, yielding three goals on the first seven shots he saw. Jonathan Bernier relieved and was dented for five goals on 19 shots.
Davis Drewiske and Jarret Stoll scored for Los Angeles.
