Gault gets back Bears Super Bowl ring

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Police say a Los Angeles memorabilia dealer recognized a missing Chicago Bears Super Bowl ring thanks to media reports about its alleged theft.

Los Angeles police announced this week it had recovered the ring, which had been reported stolen by former Bear Willie Gault after a burglary at his Los Angeles home last month.

The theft was reported on TMZ.com and rang a bell with the dealer, who saw the ring at a downtown jewelry store.

"Me and wife were huge TMZ fans before, but now we're even bigger fans," said Gault, who played in the big game in 1985.

TMZ said detectives found some jewels belonging to Gault's wife and took the store owner into custody for alleged possession of stolen property.
