NHL: Philadelphia 5, Washington 1

WASHINGTON, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Marc-Andre Bourdon set off a flurry of three second-period goals Tuesday that carried the Philadelphia Flyers to 5-1 spanking of Washington.

Wayne Simmonds and Max Talbot also scored during the big period, as the Flyers stretched their season-high winning streak to six games.

Philadelphia won for the eighth time in nine contests with the help of goals from Scott Hartnell and Jakub Voracek, while Matt Carle and James van Riemsdyk contributed two assists each.

Ilya Bryzgalov earned the victory, turning aside 31-of-32 shots.

Capitals counterpart Tomas Vokoun was yanked after two periods. He let in four goals on 21 shots, with Michal Neuvirth stopping 11 shots in relief.

Jeff Halpern got Washington's goal.
