BUFFALO, N.Y., Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Ottawa's Jared Cowen one-timed a pass from Erik Karlsson into the Buffalo net early in overtime Tuesday, boosting the Senators past the Sabres 3-2.

Only 45 seconds into the extra frame, Karlsson retrieved Jason Spezza's dump-in into the left corner, turned and found Cowan alone to the right of Sabres goalie Ryan Miller.

Cowan buried the pass behind Miller and the Senators snapped a six-game losing streak against the Sabres.

Ottawa's Milan Michalek and Peter Regin scored and Craig Anderson turned aside 27 shots to earn the win.

Miller finished with 41 saves but it wasn't enough to prevent Buffalo's second consecutive loss.

Paul Szczechura and Tyler Ennis scored for the Sabres.
