NHL: Montreal 5, New York Islanders 3

MONTREAL, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Petteri Nokelainen scored the go-ahead goal in the third period Tuesday, salvaging a 5-3 Montreal Canadiens win over the New York Islanders.

The Habs had blown a two-goal lead, allowing the Islanders to forge a 3-3 tie midway through the final frame on goals by Josh Bailey and John Tavares.

But Nokelainen put Montreal ahead to stay on a one-timer from the right point that beat Al Montoya to the glove side, banged off the post and went into the net with 6:15 remaining.

Montreal's Carey Price made 29 saves. Erik Cole, Andrei Kostitsyn, Mathieu Darche and Hal Gill also scored as the Canadiens won a second straight game.

Montoya finished with 24 stops for the Islanders.
