PITTSBURGH, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Danny Cleary scored twice in a decisive, three-goal second period Tuesday that propelled the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-1 win over Pittsburgh.

Johan Franzen added a goal during the big period as the Wings won for the eighth time in 10 games.

Pavel Datsyuk also tallied, adding an assist, while Jimmy Howard posted the victory after turning aside 25 shots, including all 12 he saw in the second period.

Pittsburgh, meanwhile, fell to 1-2 in three games without injured superstar Sidney Crosby, who has been out with concussion symptoms since a Dec. 5 collision with teammate Chris Kunitz.

Evgeni Malkin netted the Penguins' goal and Marc-Andre Fleury logged 21 saves.
