LOS ANGELES, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Monday they have re-signed free-agent outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr. to a two-year contract.

MLB.com reported the 29-year-old son of Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn would receive $850,000 in 2012 and $1.15 million in 2013 under the deal.

Gwynn had a rebound season last year for the Dodgers, hitting .256 after batting only .204 in 2010. He collected two home runs, 12 doubles and six triples while driving in 22 runs over 136 games.

He also provided a base path threat, stealing 22 bases.

Gwynn is mostly known for his defense. He posted a .993 fielding percentage and racked up eight assists last season.

The outfielder has played for Milwaukee, San Diego and the Dodgers in a 502-game career.
