MILWAUKEE, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Milwaukee Brewers slugger Ryan Braun says he has been advised to remain silent for now after reports surfaced that he had flunked a steroids test.
Braun sent a text message to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel late Saturday stating that while he wanted to meet with the media about the story, he had been advised by counsel not to say anything for the time being.
"I can't wait to get that opportunity," Braun wrote. "This is all B.S. I am completely innocent."
Braun, this year's National League Most Valuable Player, reportedly failed a test for performance-enhancing drugs in early October with the Brewers in the heat of the pennant race. ESPN broke the story this weekend, saying Ryan was found to have a higher-than-allowed level of testosterone.
The Journal Sentinel said Sunday that sources revealed Braun later took a second test, which came back negative and was being used to appeal the first test. The stakes in the appeal are high since Braun faces a 50-game suspension.
It was not known how long the appeal process would take.
