
COLUMBUS, Ohio, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Joe Corvo's second goal of the game put Boston ahead in the third period and the Bruins went on to beat Columbus 5-3.
Corvo's slap shot from the right half-boards during a 4-on-4 situation 6:44 into the final frame eluded Curtis Sanford and broke a 3-3 tie.
He also scored during a wild first period that saw each team find the net twice.
Nathan Horton and Zdeno Chara also scored, Chris Kelly added an empty-netter and Milan Lucic had three assists for the Bruins, who broke a two-game losing streak.
Tim Thomas was yanked after two periods, during which he allowed three goals on 25 shots. Tuukka Rask stopped all 11 shots he saw in the final frame.
Rick Nash, Jeff Carter and R.J. Umberger scored and Sanford finished with 24 saves for the Blue Jackets.
