BOSTON, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Jose Theodore stopped 40 shots Thursday in recording his second shutout of the season, boosting the Florida Panthers to a 2-0 win over Boston.

It was the 32nd shutout in Theodore's career, which began in 1995. This is his first season with Florida, his fifth NHL team.

Boston's Tim Thomas had a shutout working until Tomas Kopecky beat him with a wrist shot with 2:32 to go in the third period. Kris Versteeg added an empty-net goal with 42 seconds remaining.

Thomas made 28 saves. Boston has lost two straight after suffering only one loss in 15 games. That lone setback came in overtime.

Florida increased its Southeast Division lead to seven points with its third straight victory.
