NHL: Phoenix 4, Chicago 3 (SO)

CHICAGO, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Radim Vrbata scored in a shootout Monday, salvaging a 4-3 victory for the Phoenix Coyotes over Chicago.

The Coyotes had built a 3-0 lead by early in the second period, with goals from Raffi Torres, Vrbata and Keith Yandle. The Blackhawks charged back with a pair of tallies by Jonathan Toews (his league-leading 16th and 17th of the year) and Patrick Kane to forge a 3-3 tie.

After a scoreless third period and overtime, the contest moved to a shootout, where Ekman-Larsson shot first and beat Ray Emery to the glove side.

Vrbata followed with a backhander into the top of the net.

Mike Smith, who made 32 saves, stopped Toews and Marian Hossa to secure the Coyotes' second road win over the Blackhawks in eight days.

Corey Crawford started in goal for Chicago and was pulled after yielding three goals on 16 shots. Emery relieved and stopped all 11 shots he saw the rest of the way.
