DALLAS, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- The Miami Marlins have signed free agent relief pitcher Heath Bell to a three-year contract, the team announced Monday in Dallas.

The all-star closer's deal includes a vesting option for a fourth year and will pay him a guaranteed $9 million per year, MLB.com reported.

Bell, considered one of the top closers in the game, compiled a 3-4 record with a 2.44 ERA and 43 saves in 64 outings for the San Diego Padres this season.

The 34-year-old has racked up 132 saves since 2009 -- the best in Major League Baseball during the span, and sports a 3.06 career ERA with 134 saves in 435 games with the Padres and New York Mets.

The Marlins have reached a six-year, $106 million deal with free agent shortstop Jose Reyes, who is to be introduced Wednesday at the winter meetings in Dallas, the Web site said.

The team is courting pitchers Mark Buehrle and C.J. Wilson and first baseman Albert Pujols, The Miami Herald reported.
