Vikings fullback Felton charged with DWI
MIAMI, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Free-agent shortstop Jose Reyes and the Miami Marlins have agreed on a six-year deal worth at least $106 million, multiple reports indicated Sunday.
ESPN and The Miami Herald reported Reyes, who had been the every-day shortstop for the New York Mets since 2003, will join the new-look Marlins in the biggest contract ever awarded by the team.
"Done deal," a source "with knowledge of the agreement" told the Herald.
Miami, formerly the Florida Marlins, in September lured ex-White Sox Manager Ozzie Guillen to mentor the squad.
Reyes, 28, hit a career-high .337 in 126 games with 39 stolen bases and 101 runs scored last season, adding a stellar bat to the Marlins as they move into a new, baseball-only ballpark in downtown Miami next season.
The reported signing appears to mean the team's current all star-caliber shortstop, Hanley Ramirez, will move to third base.
Reyes sports a career batting average of .292, with a .341 on-base percentage and 370 stolen bases in 1,050 games.
