McIlroy captures Hong Kong Open

FANLING, China, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Rory McIlroy had a bogey-free 5-under-par 65 Sunday for a come-from-behind, two-stroke victory at the European Tour's UBS Hong Kong Open.

McIlroy opened the final round three strokes back of leader Alvaro Quiros but used a steady round -- punctuated with a chip-in birdie on the finishing hole -- in tying for the best round of the day. He completed the 72-hole tournament in 12-under 268.

Gregory Havret also shot 65 Sunday, opening with a bogey but having four birdies and an eagle at No. 12 in finishing the tournament at 10-under 270, and was second. Havret played at the par-5, 529th 12th hole in 6-under over four rounds.

Peter Hanson (70 Sunday) was third at 9-under while Pariya Junhasavasdikul (70), Ian Poulter (66) and Richie Ramsay (66) tied for fourth at 8-under. Quiros sagged to a 3-over 73 in the final round and wound up tied for seventh, five strokes behind McIlroy.

McIlroy had a birdie at the second hole Sunday and pulled into a tie for the lead with a birdie at No. 9. Poulter, who had five birdies in his first 14 holes, was also in front but McIlroy dropped a birdie putt at 12 and another at 15 to push into the lead alone.

His chip-in at 18 sealed his first tournament win since taking the U.S. Open in June.

The 2011 European Tour schedule wraps up next week with the Dubai World Championship.
