LAKE LOUISE, Alberta, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Lindsey Vonn of the United States was the winner by a wide margin at Saturday's Alpine World Cup women's downhill in Lake Louise, Canada.

Vonn overcame flat light on a bumpy course to finish in 1 minute, 51.35 seconds, a comfortable 1.68 seconds faster than Marie Marchand-Arvier of France.

Elisabeth Goergl of Austria placed third and Stacy Cook of the United States came in ninth with a 1:53.53.

Vonn's victory was her third of the Alpine season and second downhill win in as many days. She won Friday's Winterstart race by a 1.95-second margin.

"This is just a great way to start the speed season," Vonn said. "I feel that if I start well here then it will carry through the season."
