SUN CITY, South Africa, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Defending champ Lee Westwood shot a course-record 62 Saturday to take a commanding lead at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa.
Westwood leads by seven strokes after three rounds and is on track for his second consecutive title at the Gary Player Country Club.
Second-round leader Graeme McDowell shot a respectable 2-under 70 Saturday but still fell into a tie for second place with Robert Karlsson.
Westwood came out swinging with three consecutive birdies on his first four holes. After play was halted 90 minutes due to bad weather, Westwood picked up where he left off and sank a birdie putt on the ninth to take sole possession of the lead.
The back nine included a string of four consecutive birdies, including a 25-foot putt on 15, that extended his lead over the field.
