ST. LOUIS, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- World Series champion St. Louis announced Wednesday the team has offered salary arbitration to 11-year veteran first baseman Albert Pujols.

Pujols has won National League MVP honors three times, having hit 445 homers with a career batting average of .328.

If Pujols, 31, signs with a team other than the Cardinals, St. Louis will receive two extra draft picks.

The Cardinals also offered arbitration to pitcher Edwin Jackson, but declined arbitration to shortstop Rafael Furcal and pitcher Arthur Rhodes.
