WASHINGTON, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Jason Chimera's second goal of the game Wednesday, coming 1:52 into overtime, gave the Washington Capitals a 4-3 victory over Winnipeg.
The Capitals snapped Winnipeg's three-game winning streak and improved their home record this season to 8-1-1.
Washington took a one-goal lead on three occasions in regulation and Winnipeg came back to deadlock the contest each time.
Chimera's first goal came on a tip-in with 6:27 to go in the first period, giving the Capitals a 2-1 advantage. Kyle Wellwood tied it with 3:30 left in the opening stanza.
Nicklas Backstrom produced the only goal of the second period to again shove the Capitals in front, but Bryan Little once more brought the Jets even with a wrister midway through the third.
Tomas Vokoun won his 10th game of the campaign by stopping 22 shots. Ondrej Pavelec made 33 saves while suffering the loss.
